Artist Statement

My current works consist mostly of paintings and drawings which capture the emotions, character, personality, mentality, behavior, background, and ethnicity of human beings.  My intention is to reveal the unique characteristics and features of the human form.  I strive to form relationships between individuals through the image depicted on the canvas, paper, or other material.  My desire is that when viewers observe my work, they may be able to feel as if they can relate to the individual.  They may also be able to sense and imagine what the individual may be thinking and feeling.  I take great pleasure in showcasing people's unique, individualized talents, skills, and abilities.  The world is full of such wonderful diversity and I believe that this should be celebrated.  Through the human form I am able to express my understanding of myself, of others, and of the world around me.

I am influenced by and greatly admire many of the Renaissance and Baroque masters such as Rubens, Rembrandt, Caravaggio, and Leonardo da Vinci.  I strive to use these traditional methods and techniques, which showcase my technical abilities/skills, craftsmanship, and obsession with detail, through the representation of the human form.  I also greatly marvel the works of the Impressionists, particularly those of Edgar Degas, as well as the works of the Futurists.  Both movements have inspired the content of my most recent works which focus on capturing the movement and dynamism of the human form.  I believe that individuals can relate well with these works as the extremely fast-paced life of the modern era constantly calls for us to be in motion.
